I have to admit something. Last year I sold all my oracle cards (except the ones that had been gifted to me) and let go of most of my spiritual tools too, including crystal healing. It had been a process of unlayering that never really seems to stop. Learning and unlearning. Trying something out and letting it go.
For me it is all about discovering yourself beyond all “things,” thoughts, feelings, and ideas in the most truthful way possible. So when I came out of this process of shedding, I found myself buying some new ones again. This time, with less attachment and with more joy.
Because in the end, I believe that no ‘tool’ will ever take you directly to the true source of happiness and inner peace itself. Because “thing” cannot be “that.” Isn’t the real love space within you? The container beyond all that in which all these things can even exist at all?
The Gentle Support of Tools
That being said — and aside from the fact that I believe all tools work best when paired with awareness — in this physical world, tools like crystal healing can be a beautiful and fitting way to support yourself in bringing more balance and harmony into your life.
Sometimes these tools guide you back to yourself in a softer way, offering something tangible to hold on to and believe in—until the moment you may no longer need them. Or perhaps you’ll exchange one for another, as the tools evolve and grow alongside you.
So if you feel especially drawn to this healing method, or have already tried it and found it effective, trust that your intuition is showing you the ways that work for you, one step at the time.
My First Experience with Crystal Healing
It was in 2023 that I experienced crystal healing for the first time during a 2-year holistic therapist and Reiki practitioner training. I was amazed by the intensity of the session that I experienced myself. The truth was, until right before the training started I never even knew what Reiki and crystal healing was. I joined my sister because we were both going through a very hard time, and that was what triggered our spiritual awakening process at the same time.
Joining the training felt a bit like visiting a class at Hogwarts. It was truly wizardy like. We were introduced to all kinds of different healing modalities, like sound bowls, oracle cards, the Sedona Method, remedies, and a lot more (and what not). It was funny to see how each person naturally gravitated toward certain tools, while others simply didn’t resonate with them. The only thing that missed was a flying broom.
What Is Crystal Healing Exactly?
According to Zoma Opleidingen, crystals work holistically on all living beings and on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, energetic, and especially spiritual. This vibration is created by electrons moving around the atomic nucleus. Their natural energetic frequency.
Some stones release energy quickly, while others have a slower, more grounding frequency. The color, quality, shape, and chemical composition of a crystal are also said to influence its effects.
There is an incredible variety of crystals, with clear quartz, amethyst, and rose quartz being among the most popular. Each carries its own qualities, effects, and meanings. They are found in different parts of the world and formed under different geological conditions.
For example, rose quartz usually forms in massive form within pegmatites. Trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese give it its gentle pink hues. Clear quartz is found worldwide, often in igneous and metamorphic rocks, and its transparency is due to a lack of impurities during its crystallization process.
In the end, your intuition will guide you toward the “right” crystal for crystal healing, which you can use not only during energy healing treatments but also for your own personal wellness.
Using Crystals During an Energetic Treatment
As my husband owns a beautiful boutique crystal shop, our home is naturally filled with stunning pieces. It’s sometimes hard not to keep them all for ourselves.
But in reality, there’s one crystal I find myself using again and again in client sessions: clear quartz. It’s no coincidence that it’s called the master healer. For me, it’s a total “yes” because it resonates deeply and feels extremely pure in its energy.
It’s naturally self-cleansing and strengthening, meaning it works for almost any need. Because of its clarity — just like the color white — it can absorb all colors and is therefore universally supportive (unlike rose quartz for example, which is specifically connected to the heart).
Personally, this matches my inner experience: beyond everything we see, feel, think, and sense, there is an infinite, still space in which we exist. Clear quartz reflects that simplicity and purity of life and it amplifies the effects of an energy treatment.
For some people, some crystals may feel too intense to wear as jewelry or keep close to the body for long periods. But again: keep what feels good, let go of what doesn’t.
During an energy healing or Reiki healing, crystals can be used to amplify life force energy or to work on a specific area. For example, if someone is seeking relief or deep healing in a certain physical or emotional area, the practitioner may choose a crystal that resonates with that intention.
Common approaches include creating a crystal grid around the person (e.g., quartz points near the head, feet, hips, shoulders, and knees), placing a golden triangle under the treatment bed for extra grounding, using a crystal wand on the heart area, or holding crystals in the hands to enhance energy flow.
There are countless variations for crystal healing, and the choice often depends on the moment, the client, and the practitioner’s intuition.
Crystal Healing for Personal Use
There are many ways to integrate crystal healing into your daily life: wearing crystals as jewelry, placing crystals in your meditation space, keeping a tumblestone in your pocket, adding certain crystals to your bath (safe types only), or using crystal-infused water bottles (again, only with safe, non-toxic crystals).
1. Pick the “Right” Crystal
You can select a crystal you simply resonate with or choose one to support a specific intention. For example, celestine for calmness and better sleep, tourmaline for grounding, citrine for creativity, or rose quartz for self-love.
You can also choose by color for chakra healing. For instance, if you’re working on self-esteem, that links to the solar plexus chakra, which resonates with the color yellow. It is even said that certain shapes have their own unique power. But above all, keep it simple and trust your intuition.
2. Cleanse the Crystal
Reset your crystal by removing any energies it may have absorbed. Methods include running it under cold water (check first if your crystal is water-safe), placing it in sea salt, burying it in the earth, cleansing with hematite, smudging with sage or sandalwood, or placing it inside an amethyst geode.
3. Charge the Crystal
Boost its energy by leaving it in moonlight, briefly placing it in gentle sunlight (avoid harsh midday light), resting it on a clear quartz cluster or using selenite.
4. Set and Program the Crystal
Hold your crystal in both hands. Breathe deeply into your belly and connect to your heart center. State your intention clearly in your mind or out loud. Give thanks, and decide how long you wish to work with that crystal.
When you’re done working with it, cleanse it again to reset its energy.
Common Healing Crystals
Of course there is quite a big list of crystal types and ways to select the right one for you (by shape, color, star sign, werking, etc). So for now I’ll name the most common ones so you know you’re good to go and start from there. If you’re really interested in crystal healing, I encourage you to do more research on them. And of course, feel free to take a peek at the Mooon Crystals webshop (not to sell you anything but hey, if there’s one crystal shop I’d recommend, it’s my husband’s) where all the pieces are all high quality and filtered in different ways for you to choose more easily.
Clear quartz — For clarity, cleansing, and amplifying existing energies. Also boosts the effects of other crystals.
Amethyst — Protective and promotes rest and intuition.
Rose quartz — The stone of love, softens and heals the heart.
Celestine — The “angel” stone, supports clarity, intuition, and restful sleep.
Citrine (real) — Known for creativity (be careful not to confuse it with heat-treated amethyst).
Tourmaline — Very grounding, often used for energetic protection and AD(H)D support.
Moonstone — Feminine, soft, and supportive of spiritual development and intuition.
Carnelian — Activates the solar plexus, boosts self-confidence and supports motivation.
