A realization came to me this morning about energy blocks and how they affect our flow, after doing my morning pages (basically brain-dumping on paper as a form of meditation). I felt such relief after expressing myself with pen and paper, it was like the energy could flow again. Insights came through, and afterward my mind felt blank and spacious. I did my yoga and meditation practice without thought, and everything felt lighter and more relaxed than it has in weeks.
That’s when I realized I’d been so busy “working” on so many things from a reactive place, jumping between different projects, always starting with the easy tasks, that the things that actually wanted to be expressed through me didn’t get the space to breathe. The things that really matter (and that are often a little more challenging or scary). So I postponed them.
But why do the things that matter feel so difficult sometimes?
Because they come from the most authentic place: your HEART.
It’s scary because… what if you go for it and it doesn’t work out? What if you lose friends, money, safety, validation, your self-image? And whenever fear mixes with self-expression, resistance shows up. Avoidance, denial, holding yourself back, pretending to be someone you’re not (which isn’t really possible, because there is only one real you; resisting that is non-acceptance, and non-acceptance creates suffering). It’s heavy, dense energy rooted in illusion and separation.
So basically, I’d been trying to avoid being myself (what a cosmic joke) by keeping my mind busy with distractions and the idea of a “never-ending to-do list.” It’s kind of hilarious when you finally see it. As I wrote in my journal:
What’s the hurry? Where are we even going?
We think we have to push and move constantly, but the real relief comes when you experience that it’s actually the world that is moving through you.
The definition of energy blocks
Now when we talk about energy blocks or blockages, they often carry a negative association. But another way to look at it is that an energy blockage is simply energy, neutral and not negative or positive, that didn’t get to complete its cycle. Maybe it’s the anxiety that followed fearful thoughts, or the urge to write or say something that you held back (self-expression again tied to fear). Our minds can get really creative in avoiding what we’re afraid to feel. Something wasn’t fully felt or expressed, so it got stored. And I can tell you: letting it flow feels incredibly liberating.
Feeling is an important step in that process. Many of us try to skip this part and jump straight to the mental question of “How do I solve this problem? How do I stop this from happening?” which can become a long loop of reaching outside ourselves for answers, instead of simply feeling what’s here.
In a way, we don’t even have a choice, because the energy must move. Whether it’s through movement, words, or actions. Sometimes it’s even through non-action. If we’ve been repeating certain patterns to cope with fear, then non-action—for example, not stepping into the role of the saviour—can be the most truthful expression of yourself. But the thing is, when energy doesn’t get processed, it lingers in the system and creates emotional, physical, or mental dis-ease.
One bold statement from one of my teachers José Antonio Manchado captures it well:
Excuses make us ill.
Clearing Energy Blockages for Flow
Whenever a “but” rises to the surface, it’s worth examining it for what it is: just a thought. This is why energy healing (and meditation) is such a profound modality. It brings the whole system into deep relaxation on every level. Reiki softens stored tension, even in our cells. Sometimes very old energy finally gets the chance to move and be processed. Dharma Shamanic healing works directly on the mental level, helping to remove the “needle” of the belief that created discomfort and energy blocks in the first place.
When old energy is cleared, there is more space to center ourselves and drop into the heart, the place where the right questions, answers, and actions come from. From there, it becomes easier to see what’s true for us and what isn’t. It expands your consciousness — the light of what you are. Where it was once micro-focused on mind-fluff which created energy blocks, it now takes up its full space, touching everything that is ready to be seen and processed.
Try this: instead of focusing on the feeling and trying to contain it (which often makes you shrink and become small) do the opposite. Inhabit your whole body. With every in- and exhale, let yourself expand. Drop into your body, and then into the space beyond your body. Let that space grow wider, larger, softer.
Instead of contracting around the sensation, be the space in which the sensation is experienced. Instead of dissociating by fleeing into the mind, allow yourself to feel fully. Let the sensation be held by that spaciousness — the unmoving, steady space in which everything is happening.
Trust the natural intelligence of life to move. Let it process the feelings, sensations, and thoughts simply by staying present and holding space for them. Over time, you’ll notice that the energy naturally dissolves. In the beginning it may take a while, because there is so much that hasn’t been fully seen. But as you clear the system, it becomes quicker, lighter, and eventually something you do instinctively, right in the moment.
And if you’re someone who loves tangible guidelines, one simple and beautiful approach you can try is The Sedona Method.
It’s not a one-time fix. It’s choosing healing again and again, the unveiling of the mind. The real you doesn’t need healing. It simply is. It just needs to be seen, and then you can experience life from a completely different perspective: one of lightness, joy, trust, love, and connection.
Clearing Energy Blocks in Three Ways
So energy healing is really the clearing of what once was, cleansing and releasing the system of energy blocks. And together with mindfulness, consciousness, and meditation, you learn how to stay ‘open’ instead of contracting, so energy can keep flowing in the future. Which, ultimately, is just being yourself. That’s why self-expression, following the seeds planted in your heart, is SO essential for staying healthy and happy. Treat it with care.
Why?
There is no why.
Just to be You.
